This cute cat reminds me of a story Mama tells of when she was a little girl. Papaw cut a small opening in the wall and hung a rubber flap on it so their cats could go in and out of the house. I guess Papaw was and an early embracer of cat doors, huh? Anyway, Mama was an only child and sat on a bench along one side of the table. Papaw and Mamaw had chairs on the other side.
Well, they had one big old tomcat that Papaw named Putt. Mama was a little-bitty thing and named her cat Putt-putt. Well, Putt would jump up on the bench beside Mama, and Papaw would give him small bits of food. I don’t think my grandmother liked feeding the cat from the table very much. But Mama and Papaw loved it.
Putt would put his paws on the table, close his eyes, then use one paw to rake the food off onto the bench before he would eat it. I suppose he thought as long as Mamaw couldn’t see him taking the food, she couldn’t scold him for it!
My mom is 85 now, and I still love hearing stories of Putt and Putt-putt.
