This morning I got up and opened the front door as usual and was about to go make a cup of Caramel Biscotti coffee in my Keurig (yum!) when I spotted some turkeys in the pasture in front of our house.
So of course I grabbed the camera and spent the next half hour taking pictures. The turkeys were about 300 feet from the house, so the pictures aren’t as good as I’d like. I’m kicking myself for not buying a better zoom lens before now. 🙁
But still, I was glad to get the shots that I did.
And, just for a bit of perspective, here’s a shot that shows how far away they were…. 🙂
Those are great photos of the turkeys. Of course, I would prefer one on the table roasted!
Being from an urban area I was not sure what a turkey shoot was when I heard some fellas talking about it at my college. I did not ask and still don’t know if it meant shooting an actual live turkey or if they shot at targets to win a frozen turkey or what. Do you know?
Janice, if I heard a bunch of guys talking about going on a turkey shoot, then I’d assume they meant going hunting. I don’t know much about turkey hunting myself, but the sport includes using turkey callers to call up the turkeys.
So glad you stopped by, Janice!
While I was taking pictures, I could hear the hen calling the gobblers, but she was being picky. She didn’t let any of them get near her! lol She is in one shot… the fourth one down.
Even though these turkeys look HUGE with their feathers all ruffled out, and their tails fanned out, I wonder if they might have been fairly young turkeys. I zoomed in close and it didn’t look like their beards were very long. I think that’s what determines a turkey’s age. But I’m totally guessing! lol
Maybe we’ll get some turkey hunters in here who can tell us more about these gobblers. I could tell one of them was a little more aggressive than the other two, and he seemed to have the upper hand. But they never actually fought each other. Do gobblers fight? I dunno! lol
But it was an amazing sight to see them strutting around. 🙂
My brother majored in Poultry Science at the University of GA, so I should ask him, lol! He now does pharmaceutical sales (people, not fowl). Thank you for sharing a bit of your beautiful world!
